THAR BE MAGIC ,
in the lands of tortall, there are five different types of magic, three of them are more known, while two are extremely uncommon and rare. not everyone has a gifting, actually, most people are ungifted. some magics can be trained and strengthened, others cannot be changed, they simply are how they are. magic is strengthened when a god is involved, though that is extremely rare, odds of it happening one in a thousand. please rp accordingly.
1. THE GIFT
the most common of the magics, the gift is an all-purpose magic, which allows its bearer to cast spells and modify the world around them. there are different strengths of the gift and different uses for them. healers are strong in healing magic and are good at doing small delicate tasks, but cannot do extremely strong magics. black robed mages are in essence the opposite of the healers, they work on a larger scale, but they have difficulties with small things, such as lighting a candle or healing. there are gifts so weak that the person can barely light a candle, while others can shapeshift. very few people are strong enough to shapeshift or to gain the ranking of a black robed mage. it can be trained.
2. THE SIGHT
a specific branch of the gift, which allows its bearer to see the future or improve their eyesight. it is different from the magical gift, which can be used for myriad purposes. this improved vision can include detection of magic, lies, illness, pregnancy, and godhood as well as enabling the seeing of far-off things and minute details. In this there are people with hints of the sight and seers, people who see visions with lots of accuracy and see them fairly often.
3. WILD MAGIC
this kind of magic enables its bearer to form close ties to nature, especially a certain kind of animal. a more extensive form of this magic, where the bearer can even change its shape and speak to animals, is very rare, so odds are you don't have it. more common forms of wild magic are horse magic and common wild magic. horse magic is where wild magic is only applies to horses and is not uncommon, they may understand/translate horses, as well as empathize with them. the palace actually employs stable hands with such specializations. common wild magic is where the person has the ability to communicate, etc, with only one type of animals, horse magic falls into this.
4. AIR GIFT
an extremely rare and almost unknown, specific branch of the gift, it allows its bearer to hear the spirits of the dead riding pigeons as well as the breezes caught by the dust spinners.
5. DIVINE MAGIC
the unique magic of the gods and constellations, as well as those that are possessed by various species of immortals. meaning that unless you are playing certain immortals, you do not have this gift!
